When's the party?

We will have a biggish party when all the parental units can be assembled in Portland, probably in November. We'll keep you posted!

Wedding Registry

Due to popular demand, we have initiated a wedding registry. Starbucks and Krispy Kreme doughnuts didn't seem to have registries, so we were forced to go a more conventional route, namely the whole Cuisinart kitchen thing.

We have set up registries at Amazon (for those who want to do online shopping) and Targé (for those who want to traipse to a store, walk around aimlessly, buy something, wait in checkout lines, etc).

  • For kitchen stuff and electronics (and the odd book), click here for our Amazon registry. How it works: (a) click on the link -- you'll see a list of our dreamt-of items. (b) click and buy as usual.

  • For linens, lighting, etc, click here for our Target registry. How it works: (a) click on the link above and print out to take to a store or (b) go to a store and use the Club Wedd kiosk to print out the list
  • If anyone would like to get something similar but different to the registries, just let us know and we will adjust them accordingly -- we're not fussy!

    Thank you everybody!!!!!

    -- Love Scott and Suzanne

    Suzanne and Scott's marriage

Our wedding was on July 14th, 2003 in Portland, Oregon (Bastille Day!). It was a low-key thing in a judge's chambers -- no big ceremony.

    Our Story

Every couple needs a story, so here's ours:

We met on Match.com. (Is that a plug?) Suzanne saw Scott's profile one day and actually got a little excited reading it, he sounded so good. Her first email to him started out -

"I am the girl for you!" (No kidding!) It was not how she ordinarily started out an email to someone whom she was potentially trying to impress. Generally she was a bit more suave. He wrote back, naturally enough, "Isn't that a tad bit premature?"

"Of course it is!" she replied. Anyway, after a couple of weeks of emails and a two-hour long phone conversation one evening, they finally met, on August 29th, 2002, at a coffee shop in Northwest Portland. And it was not love at first sight! They were both too comfortable together right from the start. There was none of that mad, wild infatuation that keeps you up at night and makes you lose weight. However, they continued to see each frequently thereafter. Suzanne thinks she fell in love with him in early October when he built bookshelves for her in the new (old) house that she and Anastasia had just moved into. Scott confided in his female best friend and confidante that he felt very comfortable around Suzanne. Suzanne predicted to her girlfriends that he would move in with her soon himself, but he was still basically clueless. He spent five weeks in England with his mother in December and January, and Suzanne pined terribly. When he came back Suzanne picked him up from the airport and he came back to her house that first night and about three weeks later he realized that he was never at his apartment, so he officially moved in with Suzanne and Anastasia - thus proving Suzanne SO right, and also doing a very brave thing as in all his 41 years he had never moved in with a girlfriend.

A very happy and lovey-dovey household was created. Anastasia was very pleased also because now she had two grownups to cater to her and interestingly enough her Mommy didn't yell at her at all as much when Scott was around. Also Scott taught her how to play chess, which she loves and which her mother does not play.

In June, lucky Scott and Suzanne went on a wonderful two-week trip to Isle of Wight, London and Paris. It was extremely romantic and wonderful and they both had a great time. Suzanne had predicted to her girlfriends that he was planning to propose to her and would do it on the trip. By the second to the last day, she had begun to think perhaps she had been mistaken. Paris, the most romantic city in the world, had been left behind and they were in London, in a huge hotel full of Americans, with the bathrooms down the hall, right off Piccadilly Circus, very noisy and rather prosaic. However Scott made it very romantic by making a suggestion: "Let's get married." He was answered in the affirmative by Suzanne and they both thought it would be fun to get married the very next day, right there in London. But there was a silly 16-day waiting period so the next best thing was to get married on Suzanne's first day off after they got home, which is why they picked July 14th.

The sweetest thing of all is that they are both in their early forties and neither one of them has ever been married before.

So you see, Suzanne was proven right a third time: She WAS the girl for Scott!
